Clients come to work with me in couples counseling and in individual psychotherapy.
I am a Certified Therapist in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT). This therapy is a short-term structured approach that was formulated in the early 1980’s by Dr. Susan Johnson. It is backed by a substantial body (20 years) of empirical research of its effectiveness -- 70-75% of the couples move from distress to recovery, and approximately 90% show significant improvements. We map out the conflicts, communication problems and dynamic, and then I help each partner explore and express and listen to their attachment emotions, which are underneath their distress, which draws a couple closer together in a relationship that can be a secure bond and a safe haven.
I use a similar approach and techniques in individual counseling. We can safely unearth deep, buried core emotions and desires, as we explore long-standing patterns and negative beliefs and defenses such as fears and shame, so that you can become free, open, empowered, more truly yourself. I sometimes remark that "clients come to me with emotional or relationship difficulties and wind up leaving starting their own businesses or following their wildest dreams.” You can achieve peace, joy, self-esteem, meaning—realizing your dreams and visions—and achieve nurturing, dependable, and loving relationships.
My approach is collaborative and interactive. I am willing to be “in it with you,” one who has gone before you in his own healing, growth and development, professional training, one who can support, guide and coach you, one who can create a safe place for your healing and growth to take place, toward your goals, some of which you may not have even yet imagined. You can read more about my own professional history on the "About Me" page.
